A bit about acupuncture

Acupuncture has its origins in ancient China where it developed for many centuries. It spread and became popular in Europe in 20th century. Several acupuncture schools were opened in Europe during this time, and throughout the years, they have developed respect and tradition in teaching Acupuncture. ICOM, where I studied, is one of those special places.

Acupuncture is an alternative method of medicine, using insertion and manipulation of fine needles to guide and regulate the flow of Qi in meridians, in order to restore a healthy flow and balance.

This can be done in both health – preventatively, and in illness – curatively, for both symptom relief as well as a shift in the underlying cause behind recurring illnesses. For more details about the conditions acupuncture can help with, see the list above.

Restoring the connection between the body and spirit.

Let me introduce myself

My name is Maria Karabova. I originally come from Slovakia, and I came to England to study and develop my career in complementary medicine.

I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in acupuncture from International College of Oriental Medicine in June 2015. I am now a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council.

I was always interested in complementary and alternative medicine. In the past I explored meditation, mindfulness, energy work, herbal medicine, dietetics, aromatherapy and massage therapies. All of these contributed greatly to my therapeutic knowledge and only increased my admiration for the creations of nature.

Before and during my studies I had great respect and fascination for all the things between Heaven and Earth; one of which being the complexity and functionality of the human body and mind, and their connection and mutual influence. In order to respect and help develop this connection, it is important to have a mindful, non-judgemental attitude, to keep a respectful and individual approach to every patient, and lead every acupuncture session in sensitive, careful and compassionate manner.

In my future practice I aspire to explore the mind and psyche in their relation to the problems of the body.
